Think about it: most of us move from one week to the next without pressing pause. We jump from deadline to deadline, meeting to meeting, with little space to notice how we’re actually doing.

Reflection interrupts that cycle. It’s a chance to:

  • Notice the lessons hidden in last week’s challenges.
  • Celebrate progress that often gets overlooked.
  • Re-align with what really matters to you.
  • Enter Monday with clarity instead of chaos.

Reflection isn’t about dwelling on mistakes—it’s about giving yourself permission to learn and reset.

My Go-To Sunday Ritual

Everyone’s version will look different, but here’s how I keep mine simple and meaningful:

The Transition Decision Scorecard maps the evidence for your three options — and tells you which path your answers point to. 

  1. Create a calming environment. I light a candle, play soft music, or make a cup of tea—something that signals to my brain, “This is my time.”
  2. Write three highlights. I jot down three things I’m proud of from the past week. They don’t have to be big—sometimes it’s finishing a project, other times it’s making time for a walk.
  3. Ask one honest question. I choose a single question to guide my reflection, like:
    • What drained me this week?
    • What energized me?
    • What do I want more of next week?
  4. Set one intention. Not ten. Just one. For example: “Practice patience in tough conversations” or “Carve out 30 minutes daily for reading.”
  5. Close with gratitude. I list one thing I’m deeply thankful for. It’s a gentle reminder that even in messy weeks, there are moments of grace.
Making It Yours

Your Sunday ritual doesn’t have to involve journaling at all. Maybe yours is a long walk, a quiet prayer, or reflecting over brunch with a friend. The power lies in consistency. When you build a rhythm of reflection, your week stops feeling like a blur—and starts feeling intentional.

If you’re a parent, maybe your ritual includes reflecting as a family, sharing one “high” and one “low” from the week. If you’re a leader, maybe it’s writing down how you’ll show up for your team with empathy and focus. However you design it, the goal is the same: to pause, take stock, and reset.
